I’m going to follow my own theme of posting covers Otis did, here’s another fantastic one, that seems to be pretty rare. Otis Redding sings Sam Cooke’s “Cupid”.
“Redding covered a slew of Cooke’s classic songs both before and after the ex-Soul Stirrer’s tragic murder in December of 1964. So many, in fact, that Otis’ forceful reading of “Cupid” was left abandoned in the vaults until Fantasy included it on a 1992 retrospective of Redding outtakes and issued material. Indefatigable Stax researcher/author Rob Bowman concluded that it probably dates from Otis Blue sessions. If so, that would make a total of four Cooke songs that Redding chose to revisit at that time (“Wonderful World” rounded out the mother lode).” - p.25, Dreams to Remember -Bill Dual
